Ruth Barker and Niall MacDonald in conversation

  • Play:
  • Song Name: Ruth Barker and Niall MacDonald in conversation
  • Artist: Self Service/Ruth Barker and Niall MacDonald
  • Year: 2006

Ruth Barker and Niall MacDonald discuss the effect of morality and ethics in their decision making as artists. Their conversation begins with an introduction to both their practices and respective contexts. This then leads into an inquiry surrounding the moral factors inherent within an artwork, as well as the perceived moral and ethical motives of an artist.

This is the first in a series of Pub Conversations, a new program of talks initiated by Self Service. Each Self Service member has chosen an artist or person of influence to their practice who in turn is invited to nominate someone they would like to have a public conversation with. Topics of conversation are held entirely open and reflect the interests and enthusiasms of the artists nominated.

Each Pub Conversation is held within the informal setting of the Lily Langtry suite at the Lamp Tavern pub in Birmingham.

The talks are supported by Arts Council, UCE and Business Link.
